The Complete Guide to Using Your FSA & HSA for Eyewear

Every year, millions of dollars in Flexible Spending Account funds go unused. Here is how to claim what is yours.

Section 1 - The Basics

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) allow you to set aside pre-tax money for healthcare expenses. While HSAs typically roll over indefinitely, FSAs often operate on a strict "use it or lose it" policy.

Section 2 - What Can You Buy

Under IRS guidelines, vision correction and related protection are eligible expenses. Based on our catalog, the following items are eligible:

  • Prescription Glasses: Prescription eyewear, including both the cost of frames and lenses, is a fully eligible expense.
  • Readers: Over-the-counter reading glasses are eligible without a prescription.

Section 3 - Eligibility & Limitations

  • Non-Prescription Items: Standard sunglasses (plano lenses) are generally not eligible unless medically necessary.
  • Protective Cases: Cases included for free with your prescription eyewear are covered. However, standalone purchases of cases are generally not eligible.
  • Dual Purpose: If an item has both a medical and personal use, some providers may request a receipt showing the associated prescription eyewear purchase. We provide itemized receipts for all orders.

Section 4 - Important Checkout Info

Using Your Benefit Card: We accept FSA and HSA cards as a payment method.

Avoid Mixed Carts: To ensure compliance and prevent your card from being declined, please do not mix eligible and non-eligible items in the same cart. If you wish to purchase non-eligible items (such as standalone cases), please buy them in a separate transaction using a standard credit or debit card.
